I completely forgot to post my May Favorites video, and looking back on it feels like visiting a different time. Back then, I hadn’t chopped my hair with paper scissors, could still fit into my shorts, and wasn’t dealing with excessive beard and mustache growth. Life seemed so much easier in May! You didn’t have to come up with excuses to avoid people, and the doorbell was silent. It was all about Zoom meetings where you could mute yourself to keep typing emails or pretend that turning the camera off was a mistake—”Oops, sorry everyone, still figuring this out—can you see me?”—so you could eat lunch during a client meeting.
Now, it’s all about “let’s meet up for garden drinks,” which means shaving and actually getting dressed. The other day, I was halfway through Sainsbury’s before realizing I hadn’t buttoned my shirt properly, putting my less-than-perfectly-supported chest on display. Socializing is a skill I’m relearning.
Anyway, here are the May Favorites. June Favorites will be up soon, which might feel like it’s playing tricks with your mind, but I need to document everything here, or else it didn’t happen. This blog might become important historical research someday. Few people are as dedicated to chronicling their lives online as I am. Sure, some do, but apart from them, not many. I’m like the modern-day Samuel Pepys, though I write about face creams and social distancing mishaps, rather than great fires and plagues. We’re practically the same person.
