Ruth Explores an Array of Trends

Ruth Explores an Array of Trends

Last week, I took a bunch of fashion photos to post on Instagram Stories, but I realized they’d disappear after just 24 hours. So, I decided to give them a lasting spot here, for all to enjoy. Imagine someone in the year 2119 reading this! It could be in a history class. “Crilly was like the Shakespeare of her time,” they might say. “She even wrote about the humorous ways people interact with everyday objects. Back then, this writing was contemporary art. Today, we write less because we’re glued to our reality TV shows and simply Ask Alexa for what we need. But by looking at Crilly’s work, we can experience life through her words.”

Anyway, back to fashion. There’s a great sale happening, and Hush is my go-to choice. I was sent some outfits to photograph but ended up buying a few more pieces myself—some at unbelievable discounts, like a camo skirt for just £25.

Some of the clothes from my Instagram photos are also on sale. Others are from the current collection and not discounted, but I’ll detail everything next. Some outfits should probably be part of my “Ruth Tries Trends” category; we’ve got shorts with a jacket, and camo print with lace. Maybe next time.

I must mention my wooden shoes. They sound clunky but are surprisingly comfortable, despite being like blocks of wood. They give off a cool “summer of love” vibe and pair well with almost anything, as long as you’re not putting them with an outlandish outfit. They make me feel slim and tanned, helped by a gel pedicure and the tan leather that enhances the look. You can find the shoes at Office for £65—truly great value!

I intended this to be a short post with lots of clothing pics, but I’ve rambled on, so let’s look at some clothes and the made-up trends I’m sporting.

Lace with Camo
This combo never gets old. Mixing feminine pieces with military-style camo adds an edge. The lace dress stands out on its own, making me feel like a vintage milkmaid with a twist, and the camo jacket is versatile enough for cooler seasons.
– Office Wooden Heeled Shoes – £65
– Joline Lace Dress – £89
– Camo Military Jacket – down to £50

Shorts with Jacket
Wearing shorts with a jacket is quite the look. Layer a vest, jumper, and jacket, leaving your legs bare as a statement. Sometimes, it’s necessary, especially when you’ve just applied Body Blur and your legs look sun-kissed. It’s a summer beauty essential!

Find Body Blur here in shades like Latte and Café Crème at FeelUnique. It gives my legs a stunning glow despite being fair underneath. The chino shorts I’m wearing are super comfy, solving the usual fit issues I have. Grab yours here.
– Vita Liberata Body Blur in Latte Light
– Chino Shorts – £45
– Lucky Sweater – down to £55
– Joyce Jacket – £75

Too-Short Trousers
I’ve never been a fan of cropped trousers until now. They can look flattering by revealing the ankles, which often appear neat and trim. These cropped chinos, labeled as “girlfriend chinos,” have a bit of mystery—are they for or from a girlfriend? Who knows! I’m loving the bright pink Love t-shirt with black chinos, though they fit smaller than the shorts in the same size. Worth trying if you’re okay with a snugger fit.

– Girlfriend Chinos – £75
– Love Tee – down to £30
– Hever Canvas Trainers – £38

A note on the trainers: the stripes add a fun twist over basic plimsolls. They remain pristine white even after walking around London, but we know that might change thanks to kids and pets stepping on them.

That’s all for now. Let me know if you score any great deals. I’ve just discovered that Soho Home has a sale, so I’m off to hunt for a new light for my utility room!
