I’ve been a bit slow with testing sunscreens, haven’t I? Honestly, I’ve taken detailed notes on many sun creams, trying each one carefully and objectively. But for some reason, my reviews have been slow to appear. Writing about sun protection can be a bit intimidating since it crosses into healthcare, and misinformation could be risky.
Nevertheless, I’m diving into it because the Classic Sunscreen from the U.S. brand COOLA is a great choice, especially now with the relentless heat in the UK. People are craving beauty products that offer a refreshing, hydrating feel. There’s a call for gel textures, jelly masks, and cooling sprays that really combat the heat.
For all those in the UK tired of the heat, COOLA offers a lightweight sunscreen that’s invisible and refreshing without making your skin feel tight. It has a slight cucumber scent, and the SPF 30 formula isn’t greasy and leaves no chalky residue. I first tried it due to requests for organic suncare, and it quickly became a favorite, along with the brand’s Pina Colada Sunscreen Spray.
The term “organic” in beauty can be vague, but COOLA uses over 70% organic ingredients, which is noteworthy if that’s important to you. I tested several products from brands dedicated to organic ingredients, and this one stood out.
COOLA’s sunscreen formula includes antioxidants and hydrators, so while it’s cooling, it doesn’t dry out your skin. Those with very dry skin might prefer something creamier, like CeraVe, which I find excellent, but for most, COOLA’s sunscreen is an impressive choice.
The Pina Colada SPF30 Spray provides a continuous, invisible mist, making sunscreen application ultra-convenient. You barely need to touch it after spraying. However, I always wonder if we apply enough with mists to get full protection, so I use them more as a quick top-up. They’re handy for unexpected sun exposure, like a surprise lunch outdoors or an unplanned evening drink after the beach. With mists, it’s best to spray generously, even covering the same spots twice for good measure.
If the Pina Colada scent isn’t for you, there’s an unscented version of the COOLA Eco-Lux SPF30 Spray. Both are available for £36 and are as residue-free and non-greasy as the face sunscreen. They’re a pleasure to use.
COOLA Organic Suncare Classic Sunscreen SPF 30 is available for £30 for 50ml.
On a related note, I miss Avon’s E-Defence, which was a silky, luxe SPF50 product perfect under makeup. I wonder if they have a replacement for it.
