I almost called this post “My Most-Used Autumn Moisturisers,” but after spending way too long on the title, I went with “My Current Favourite Moisturisers.” Pretty straightforward, right?
I’ve got about a dozen moisturisers by the bathroom sink and a bunch more on the mantelpiece, but here are the ones I keep reaching for. These are fantastic at keeping skin hydrated, which is what we’re all after in a moisturiser. They don’t boast any special ingredients or tackle specific skin issues like retinol or vitamin C. They’re basic in the best way—just solid, reliable hydration.
I’ve thrown in a fancy cream at the end (looking at you, Kate Somerville) and a slightly more exciting one with Frankincense, but otherwise, here’s a selection you can use anytime, anywhere. Need a good buffer for your retinol serum? Want a versatile face cream for day or night? Hoping for something that keeps your skin looking dewy under makeup? I’ve got you covered.
I’ve made a video that goes into detail about each of my current favorites. Check it out if you’re curious to hear my deep thoughts on the word “pamper.” Here’s a summary of what’s in the lineup:
– La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Fluide: A great pick for oily or spot-prone, yet dehydrated skin. It’s soothing, hydrating, oil-free, and super lightweight, making it perfect for summer use on normal to dry skin.
– Dr Roebuck’s No Worries Moisturiser: I’ve been using this rich, wonderful face cream for a couple of months. The air-pump packaging is a personal favorite—no fiddling with lids—making it easy to use daily.
– Dr Sam’s Flawless Moisturiser: Similar packaging to the previous one, but has a gel-cream texture with a matte finish, which is ideal as a makeup base if you don’t want a dewy look.
– Inkey List Collagen: Although not a moisturiser, I layer it under the Dr Roebuck’s, or any face cream, because it adds a noticeable difference over time. It’s like water, feels pointless at first, but stick with it.
– Willowberry Nutrient Boost Day Cream: I’m onto my second or third pot. It’s nourishing without being greasy, from a thoughtful, independent brand.
– Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Lift Cream: Neal’s Yard knows their Frankincense. The scent evokes a strong emotional response for me, and their Frankincense Cream Cleanser is just as great—effective on both oily and dry skin.
– Kate Somerville Retinol Vitamin C Moisturiser: This is the wildcard. A power-packed face cream with retinol and vitamin C—perfect for those who prefer a simple routine. Cleanse, apply this cream, and sleep. Doesn’t get easier than that.
