It’s been over a year since I last shared a seasonal skincare update—so much for maintaining a regular feature! I find myself easily distracted by tasks not even related to this blog, like spending hours writing about sink design, yet I struggle to focus on what I should be doing.
Thankfully, today I’ll dive back into skincare, specifically what products I’m currently using on my face. Rather than detailed beauty reviews, I’ll focus on the types of products and how often I use them.
The highlights of my current routine are: 1) admitting I don’t do two extensive cleanses a day, and 2) incorporating retinols in my evening routine. If skipping a thorough morning cleanse worries you, let me explain. While I do cleanse, it’s not always the full balm-and-flannel cleanse. I either use a face wash during a quick shower or micellar water on cotton pads when I’m really pressed for time.
My use of retinols will sound familiar if you’re a regular reader. I shared a video on retinols some time ago and since then, I’ve been trying different products. I’m mentioning just two here, as they are my most used, but stay tuned for new arrivals coming soon.
I’ve also made some seasonal adjustments, like daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen and adding gradual face tanners to my evening routine. Although one might think tanners are more for winter when there’s no sun, I tend to use them in summer. My body tans easily, but I don’t expose my face as much, creating a noticeable contrast.
Here’s a quick look at my current skincare routine for summer:
Morning:
– Cleanse: a quick wash.
– Serum: usually something antioxidant or hydrating.
– Moisturizing sunscreen.
Evening:
– Cleanse: a thorough one, usually done twice.
– Acid peel or toner.
– Moisturizer.
Or,
– Cleanse.
– Retinol.
– Moisturizer.
For morning cleansers, I currently rotate between products like Garnier Micellar Water, L’Oreal Age Perfect Micellar, CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, and Balance Me Face Wash.
In terms of serums, I’m using brands like Paula’s Choice, Caudalie, First Aid Beauty, and L’Oreal. For sunscreen, I opt for products from La Roche-Posay, COOLA, and Clinique.
At night, I prefer cleansers like the PIXI Double Cleanse, Dr. Sam’s Flawless Cleanser, and Clinique’s Take The Day Off Balm. My routine sometimes includes acid peels like Zelens PHA pads and First Aid Beauty Pads. Retinols in the mix are from This Works and Medik8.
When it comes to moisturizers after using acids, I use La Roche-Posay Toleriane Night, Sunday Riley Tidal Cream, and Herbivore Pink Cloud Cream.
To expand my summer glow, I dabble with gradual tanners like Isle of Paradise Light Drops, M&S Overnight Glow Mask, and OSKIA Tanning Drops. For eye care, I trust products like Pai Echium Eye Cream and DCL Peptide Eye Cream.
