I’ve often avoided wearing red because I feel like it completely washes me out. Especially if you’re blonde, it’s a tricky color to pull off. If you’re as blonde as Gwen Stefani, you can wear almost any color since your hair acts like a neutral shade. But for those of us with darker or more yellow-toned blonde hair, it requires a bit more caution.
So, it was with some hesitation that I decided to wear a red dress to the Monica & Joe 1st Birthday Party at Soho House on Wednesday night. Initially, I felt very self-conscious—red really does scream for attention! In my opinion, a faded, orange-tinted red is easier to wear than a deep red for blondes. It gives off a light, summery vibe rather than a heavy, vampy look. Plus, the dress was made of the lightest silk and was just a simple slip—not too tight or overly sexy. I styled my hair in a high ponytail and went for dark, winged eye makeup. I felt I needed a bit more makeup than usual to ensure my face didn’t fade away! Next time I wear this dress, I’ll probably define my eyes even more and maybe darken my brows. Look out for a video where you’ll see the dress in full, and I’ll try to remember to make these small adjustments when I film it.
How do you all feel about wearing red? Are there any blondes who absolutely love it? I’m thinking about creating a guide on “how to wear red,” so if you have any tried-and-true tips, let me know!
