Craving for Leather Jackets

Craving for Leather Jackets

I’m on the hunt for a new leather jacket. Not literally browsing in a market like Walford, but I’m looking to make a purchase. Leather jackets are my go-to attire (though I actually live in a house, not among leather garments!), and I tend to buy a new one almost every year. I’ve never had to throw any out since I always opt for high-quality ones that last for ages. My best purchase was a Joseph jacket, reduced from £1050 to £250 at the Harrods sale in 2005. Here are a few options I’m considering right now. I’ll update you once I make my decision!

1) MuuBaa Jadene Army Grey Jacket
Absolutely lovely. I adore a shearling collar, although they can get a bit dirty. It costs £520 from Coggles.

2) Jil Sander Shearling Aviator Jacket
I adore this one so much, but it costs the same as my MA course fees for the year, so it’s out of the question. It’s £3110 from Net-a-Porter, and I just love how it looks on the model!

3) MIH Jeans Distressed Leather Biker Jacket
I’m a fan of the lining, and of course, the jacket itself. I have a thing for distressed leather! This one is priced at £685 from Net-a-Porter.

A quick note about more affordable leather jackets: there are some great options out there, but I’ve learned that it’s worth spending a bit more on coats and jackets. For example, my Jil Sander wool coat, which I bought in 2003 for £800, still gets worn every winter and looks amazing. I’ve probably worn it around 400 times, making the cost per wear about £2. Compare that to an H&M coat from the same year, which didn’t last as long, with a cost per wear of £8. It’s all about finding the right balance.
