The Alluring Comfort of the Wireless Bra

The Alluring Comfort of the Wireless Bra

I’m caught in a bit of a bra dilemma right now. I’ve been told that wearing an underwired bra isn’t the best choice because I’m still breastfeeding. However, I only nurse my baby in the morning and at night, so most of the day, I’m actually not breastfeeding. I really miss wearing those lacy, beautiful bras and would rather not stick with a nursing bra unless I have to, with its bulky straps and clips.

I noticed a serious lack of stylish non-wired, non-nursing bras when I was pregnant. I wanted something soft without the drop-down cups, and frankly, why would you want those if you don’t even have a baby yet? There must be plenty of people who aren’t pregnant or planning to be, but still want a comfy, wire-free bra—maybe because they prefer the relaxed fit or have other reasons to avoid underwire.

In my search, Wacoal’s Embrace Lace has emerged as a top pick for me. I first saw it around Christmas at Harvey Nichols and thought it looked incredibly sexy with its plunging front and delicate lace design. Back then, I was still feeding about eight times a day, so non-nursing bras weren’t on my radar. Now, with fewer feeds, I can explore more options in lingerie.

Let’s be honest, the Embrace Lace isn’t going to provide a lot of support. If you’ve got a fuller bust, you’ll notice just from looking at it that it’s not the bra for strenuous activities like climbing a mountain or taking a Jazzercise class. It’s more of a “fair weather” bra for when you’re not doing anything too intense, similar to how you’d treat a pair of tall heels. It’s not ideal for running after a bus, and you must be cautious when out and about. Those with a generous bust may find things slipping if not careful. But for low-key activities like dinners, shopping, or relaxed dates, it’s perfect.

This bra is available in various colors and styles—my favorite is the one they have at John Lewis, which comes in options like black with cream trim, hot pink, pale pink, and nude. Its plunging neckline is handy for low-cut outfits, and the lace trim is quite elegant, giving a sophisticated touch when spotted under a blouse or dress.

The bra sizes are based only on chest measurements like 32, 34, 36, and 38. My usual size is around 32E, but I wear a 36 in this style because a 32 just doesn’t fit. It’s smart to try a couple of sizes to find the right fit. You can find some styles at John Lewis and others at Figleaves. Each costs about £38, but there’s a 30% discount on Figleaves with the code TREAT30 right now. I’m not sure how long the offer lasts, though—I just found it on their homepage.
