THE BUDGET MASCARA THAT DELIVERS LUXURY RESULTS

THE BUDGET MASCARA THAT DELIVERS LUXURY RESULTS

Last week, I shared my newfound love for a non-surgical eye lift, which was simply the result of a good mascara. It wasn’t about fancy tricks or miracle skincare – just defining lashes and a little lift at the roots to avoid drooping.

I’m back to talk about the mascara I used in those photos: the Standout Volume Buildable Mascara from KIKO. It’s packaged in a neat, square tube that reminded me of Guerlain’s Maxi Lash mascara. Unlike others with flashy packaging, this one kept it simple.

The KIKO mascara features an oddly shaped brush that nearly stopped me from trying it. I’m not keen on unusual brush designs – a little tapering or a slight curve is fine, but I draw the line at strange shapes and added combs. I don’t want surprises with my mascara wand, especially since an unexpected brush can lead to unfortunate eye-poking incidents.

I prefer a single brush that handles everything: lifting at the roots, evenly coating the lashes, and separating them as you go. The KIKO brush is subtly different – it sort of tapers, with a curvy top and slimmer bottom. This shape became apparent when I misjudged the distance and nearly hit my eye (a common mascara mishap for me).

Despite my initial concerns, I quickly got used to the brush and was impressed by how well the Standout Volume Mascara builds volume. One coat gave a natural look with extra length, while a second coat significantly amped up the volume.

For me, the highlights of this mascara were the extra length and volume, the separation of the lashes, and its buildability. Even with multiple coats, it didn’t clump or flake and kept the lashes looking smooth and neat.

Considering it costs under ten pounds, it’s a very impressive product that delivers mega-volume and excellent separation, rivaling more expensive options. It offers a “false lash effect” without being heavy or clumpy.

In summary, the KIKO mascara works exceptionally well. Its brush design effectively coats and combs through the lashes, resulting in no smudging or flaking, and it’s easy to remove with a makeup remover. Currently available in jet black for £9.90, I hope they consider offering it in brown too.
