Wow, I really put Elnett’s Extra Strength Hairspray to the test for these photos! Unless I sat in a sauna for an hour, I can’t imagine anything more challenging for a hairspray. Gale-force winds, pouring rain, what felt like sleet at one point, and a broken car heater that wouldn’t stop blasting hot air. Plus, two kids used my hair as horse reins. By day’s end, I should have looked like a mess, but surprisingly, I looked pretty decent.
Testing the hairspray’s power wasn’t even my goal. I just wanted to take some nice photos and talk about the limited edition Electric Nights can, which is a festive red instead of the usual gold. But I got sidetracked by how well it performed. I’ve always been a fan of Elnett, and although this Extra Strength version was new to me, I was a bit nervous about trying it. Stronger hairsprays often leave my hair stiff and crispy, and I hate that feeling. Even though I love the hold and the volume they can add, I can’t stand not being able to run my fingers through my hair.
Fortunately, Elnett Extra Strength doesn’t have that problem. Like the original, it leaves no stickiness or crispiness and can be brushed out when you want to restyle. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m glad such a hassle-free option exists because I like to brush out my hairstyle before bed, just like removing my makeup.
The hold is outstanding. I didn’t test the “up to 24 hours” claim, but given the severe conditions, I think I made up for the shorter time frame. The weather was awful, and my broken car heater felt like standing in front of an industrial heater. My face was cooked on one side, and the metal buckles on my coat were blazing hot, yet my hair still looked almost perfect.
If you’re curious, my festive hairstyle was a bit of a debacle. I planned to create a stunning, backcombed up-do but settled for low-key waves. I spent quite some time prepping my hair: blow-drying it smooth, adding rollers for bounce and lift, and using waving tongs for texture. I then locked it all in place with a generous amount of Elnett Electric Nights Limited Edition Extra Strength Hairspray, including an upside-down session for added texture.
Normally, I use Elnett to tame flyaways when I wear a neat bun or ponytail, but it’s perfect for setting looser or longer styles too, as it makes them feel flexible and natural.
That’s enough about Elnett for now. The limited edition Electric Nights version is available at Superdrug for £4.19. Do you have a go-to party style for your hair? Is there a style you dream of pulling off but never quite manage? You know, the one you think might make you late because you’ll probably burn yourself once or twice, then realize your hair looked better before you started?
